Catalyst Psychology integrates solution-focused, cognitive-behavioural, and mindfulness-based therapies to provide clients with a strengths-based and client-centered approach. Driven to help you achieve your goals, through solution-focused approaches, we start were you want to end and the goals you want to accomplish and develop a plan to help you achieve it. Leveraging cognitive-behavioural approaches we strive to help you cultivate greater self-awareness and self-mastery through intentional challenging and reshaping of thoughts, actions, and feelings from negative to positive.
To supplement and assist the solution-focused and cognitive-behavioural approaches we leverage mindfulness-based strategies to help clients bring their minds and bodies into alignment and into a state of peace, calm, acceptance, and confidence.
Is a future-oriented, goal-directed, and solution-focused rather than problem-focused form of therapy. It integrates positive psychology principles and practices and elicits change by focusing on solutions rather than problems. SFT endeavours to cultivate hope, positive emotions, and future orientation in order to devise, encourage, attain, and maintain desirable behaviour change.
Is based on the cognitive model which explains that an individual’s thoughts directly influence their actions, feelings, and physiological reactions to the situations and circumstances in their lives. CBT is built on the foundation of the therapist-client relationship, where a positive, strong, and collaborative therapeutic relationship can support and facilitate positive outcomes in therapy. One of the primary goals of CBT is to interrupt negative feedback loops through supporting clients, first in-session then out of session, to re-evaluate their thoughts. Finally, CBT’s foundational objective is to support clients in becoming self-sufficient and fundamentally their own therapists.
Are grounded in Buddhist principles and practices of mindfulness – which is establishing awareness of thoughts, feelings, and your environment without automatic responses. MBT seeks to help clients cultivate present-orientation and a non-judgemental mindset as a method to overcome or avoid destructive or automatic thoughts, reactions, or habits. MBT uses strategies such as calm breathing, body scans, and mindfulness meditation to support clients in achieving present-focus or orientation and a non-judgemental mindset in order to overcome or avoid negative automatic thoughts or behaviours.
We understand that reaching out for psychological support can be a daunting and anxiety provoking step for some. Our goal is to make this experience as simple and straightforward as possible for you.
This is where we will initially connect. I will invite you to tell me your story, the challenges you wish to address, and the goals you wish to achieve. During this call I will describe my overarching approach to address your challenges and facilitate goal achievement, and you will have the opportunity to ask me questions to determine if I am the right fit for you.
This is our first session together. We will discuss and review what it means to work with a Registered Psychologist. Then, we will go through an intake interview where I will again clarify the challenges you wish to address, the goals you wish to accomplish, and then discuss your background, history, and any other information that would be important, all of which will support us in achieving our goals during our work together. This stage is more extended for couples!
This is where the change happens. This is where we will steadily work to address your challenges and achieve your goals. During this stage of therapy, it is important to know that new challenges can appear, and goals can change – this is totally normal! We will adjust accordingly and continue working towards your objectives. Throughout this stage homework is common; homework helps clients make progress in-between sessions and acts as a powerful tool for accountability. Overall, this part of the journey can be exhilarating, exhausting, and emotional – this too is totally normal! Here is where perseverance is key and through that perseverance your resilience and confidence will grow.
This is where the celebration happens. You’ve done an incredible amount of work, braved storms, climbed mountains, trekked across deserts, and you made it. Be proud of yourself! You’ve overcome your challenges, and accomplished your goals, congratulations! This is where our work together can end. This can be a “So long” or “See you again sometime” conversation. Please know, even after you accomplish your goals, I am still in your corner, and you can come back for support with new challenges and goals in the future.
You’re willing to become your own catalyst for change, growth, health, and happiness.
You’re willing to grow and change, even in the face of obstacles, discomfort, and challenges.
You’re willing to be vulnerable in order to expand your self-awareness and re-shape your thoughts, feelings, and actions.
You’re motivated and goal-oriented, with a willingness to dig deep so you can accomplish your goals.
You’re willing to practice compassion, empathy, and understanding towards yourself and others.
You’re willing to practice seeing your inherent strengths, skills, and capabilities.
Session quantity or therapy duration can vary broadly based on several variables and the ever-evolving nature of therapy. Nevertheless, as I say to my clients: “My goal is to work myself out of a job as quickly as possible”. As such, I will work with you to address your challenges and achieve your goals as effectively and efficiently as possible.
I offer both! Depending on your needs and preferences I am more than happy to see my clients in-person or virtually. For my clients who wish to attend sessions virtually, I always advise them to find a quiet, private, and confidential place to participate in their session, whenever possible.
